This past week lots of LRT folk have been down at St Paul's. Have we found religion? No. Have we found an experiment in direct democracy camped in the center of London? Yes. The camp is a starting point, a work in progress, people are bit by bit drawing up plans for an alternative future. We suggest that if you want to see direct democracy in action come down round about 7pm to join in the general assembly. we'll see you there.

Hinkley Point is the first of eight proposed sites for nuclear new build to go ahead. We stopped them here before, and we can do it again. If they fail at Hinkley, it is unlikely the “nuclear renaissance” will have the momentum to continue.

London Rising Tide has been up to a great deal since the beginning of 2011, however our website has been having some issues recently preventing us putting the details up. Most notably, in April, LRT and various other climate groups marked the anniversary of BP's Gulf of Mexico oil spill with a week of action against the oil giant's sponsorship deals in London.

after the remains of the irish government gave approval on the 20th of January for the shell high-pressure gas pipeline and refinery in county mayo, activists have been staging blockades, actions and protests against shell in solidarity with the residents and activists of rossport. in london, on the 27th of January, LRT and Rhythms of Resistance's garage blockade was also called as a memorial to long-time climate activist val jones, who lost a long struggle against a debilitating disease just one year ago.

We at London Rising Tide love Christmas – reconnecting with family and friends, the rosy glow of happiness that spreads through the country as people have a chance to get closer to whatever and whoever’s most important to them. The frosty weather that envelopes us and makes us appreciate what we have all the more, and the sound of people drawn out of their houses to play in the snow. We can’t spend all our time scheming plans to topple the climate criminals working to turn our world and environment into a machine for their profit, and Christmas comes as a welcome break.
